Risks & Benefits of Therapy

Like most most things worth doing, talk-therapy has its risks and benefits.   Therapy often involves discussing unpleasant aspects of one’s life.  As such, a person may experience uncomfortable feelings like sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness.  On the other hand, talk-therapy has also been shown to have benefits for people who invest their time, energy, and resources into this ultimate act of self-care.  Although there are no guarantees as to what a person may experience, therapy often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in distressful feelings.
