Fees & Insurance

"No Surprises Act"

You have the right to receive a “GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE” explaining how much your medical care will cost under the “No Surprise Act” law.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for mental health and medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.  This includes mental health related costs like intake, individual therapy, and relationship therapy session fees.

We will provide you with a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day of scheduling an intake session in 3 business days; and within 3 business days of scheduling an intake in at least 10 business days.  You can also ask for a Good Faith Estimate at any time and we will provide you with that information within 3 business days.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Therapy Session fees

Initial consultation – no charge

The initial consultation is a 30-minute phone conversation during which the client shares their concerns and what they hope to accomplish through therapy.  This gives the client the opportunity to evaluate Dr. Moreland’s style and consider if she might be a good personality fit for the client.

Intake session – $210 (individual & relationship)

The intake session is the first meeting during which the client’s bio-psycho-social history is discussed.  It is typically a 55-minute session.  The client has the opportunity to share any significant medical issues, their history of mental health symptoms, their relationship history, and any other relevant life events.  This provides Dr. Moreland with a basic understanding of the client’s functioning, their goals for therapy, and serves as the foundation of the treatment plan.  Depending on the extent of the client’s history, a second intake session may be necessary.

Therapy session – $180 (individual & relationship)

A therapy session is typically a 55-minute meeting during which the client and Dr. Moreland discuss treatment relevant events and/or symptoms that occurred since the previous session.  It is an opportunity for the client to explore and build awareness and insight around their experiences, behavior, interpersonal interactions, and symptoms in an empathic, validating, and nonjudgmental space.

Sliding scale fee

Inner Sanctum Psychology may offer sliding scale fees to some clients based on financial needs for a limited time.  Clients can discuss this option during the initial phone consultation.

Payment policies

Payment policy

  • Payment of session fee or co-pay is collected after each session.
  • Payment can be made with a debit or credit card.

Cancellation policy & fee

When you schedule an appointment at Inner Sanctum Psychology, we are making a commitment to you and telling others we are unavailable during that time.   We understand that life can be quite unpredictable and there may be times you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment.  If you need to reschedule your appointment, we will do their best to accommodate the request.    If you need to cancel your appointment, cancellations made 24+ hours before the appointment give us an opportunity to provide services to others and therefor, you will not incur a cancellation fee.  However, cancellations that occur less than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment and “no show” appointments (when a client does not show for an appointment and does not notify us in advance) will be charged a cancellation fee.  The first late notice cancellation/“no show” occurrence will not incur a charge.  We understand unexpected life events come up.  The second and third late notice cancellations/“no shows” occurrence will be charged a $75 fee.  The fourth and subsequent late notice cancellation/“no show” occurrences will be charged the full $180 session fee.  Insurance companies are not liable for your late notice cancellation/“no show” fees. You are responsible for paying the cancellation fee.  Please be aware, your credit card on file will be charged the appropriate fee.

Insurance

If a client chooses to use their health insurance to pay for therapy services, it is highly recommended and very important that they contact their insurance provider’s customer service department and make sure they fully understand their mental health/behavioral health benefits, including but not limited to:  deductible, copay, co-insurance (if applicable), and telehealth visits.  Each insurance policy may have different guidelines.  The client is responsible for services not covered by their insurance, for example, if the deductible is not met, the claim is denied, or insurance coverage becomes inactive or lapses.

IN-NETWORK provider for BCBS

Inner Sanctum Psychology will submit insurance claims on behalf of the client for the following insurance plans:

  • BCBS PPO
  • Blue Choice PPO Preferred
  • Blue Choice Options
  • Professional Blue Choice PPO

OUT-OF-NETWORK reimbursement

Depending on the insurance provider, clients may have the option to pay cash for therapy services and then self-submit claims to be reimbursed for out-of-network provider expenses by their insurance company.  It is the client’s responsibility to contact their health insurance provider, confirm coverage, and secure any and all authorizations.  It may be helpful to ask questions like:

  • Do I have out-of-network coverage?
  • What is the deductible?
  • Is there coinsurance or copay required?
  • Is there a maximum number of sessions per year allowed?  If so, how many?
  • Does my plan cover the following CPT codes for outpatient psychotherapy sessions without requiring a prior authorization?  If so, what is the reimbursement rate?
    • 90791 – a 16 to 90-minute session to conduct an integrated bio psychosocial assessment, including history, mental status, and recommendations
    • 90834 – a 38 to 52-minute psychotherapy session
    • 90837 – a 53+ minute psychotherapy session
    • 90847 – a family psychotherapy session with client present, 50 minutes

Inner Sanctum Psychology can assist clients through the insurance process if that is helpful.  If the insurance provider agrees to reimburse the client, Inner Sanctum Psychology will provide the client with a monthly invoice (an itemized list of services also called a superbill) that the client can submit to their insurance provider for reimbursement.
